A series of compositions for piano, vocal and instrumental chamber music, musical design for dozens of theater performances and a lot of journalism – this is the contribution of composer, pianist, teacher and music critic Imants Zemzars to Latvian music. On April 14, he celebrates his 70th anniversary.
Due to the pandemic, live celebrations cannot take place, so Latvian Television heard some greetings dedicated to Imants Zemzaris.
Singer Ieva Parša describes Imants Zemzari as a special person: “He is very subtle in his perception of the world and in his music, very deep and at the same time yummy. In his music you can feel a great love for Latvia, Latvian nature and this land, and it appeals to me very, very much. ”
Welcoming the composition, Parša said: “I think that Imants has a lot of colorful, deep and interesting music, and I would like to hear a lot of his own compositions.”
Pianist Daumants Liepiņš noted: “Imants Zemzaris associates me first and foremost with such simplicity and honesty. The fragility of nature, it can be said that such fragility of the soul inside is recorded in his music and also in his personality. There is nothing exaggerated, it can be said – such a minimalist language and expression of music, but everything is in its place as it should be. ”
The pianist wished the jubilee: “To keep the same light and the same simplicity. And let him continue to delight us with a new composition. ”
