Holidays on New Year’s holidays in Bulgaria beats the price of travel abroad. The Covid pandemic did not stop the rise in hotel prices. Managers attribute the cost to high electricity prices, staff shortages and a difficult future to predict.
Three nights with breakfasts and dinners in a luxury Bulgarian hotel are equal in price to 10 days only in the Maldives. For both holidays, which cover the New Year holidays, you will pay a little over 4 vouchers. As expected, there are still places in the 5-star hotel in Velingrad for December 31, while for the Maldives everything is full. A group of 100 percent has long been assembled for Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, where the price is about 1,600 levs per person. It includes a six-day all-inclusive plus a plane ticket in both directions. For comparison: for 1756 levs you can rent a studio for two in Bansko. The package price is for five nights with breakfast. The New Year’s holiday dinner will cost another BGN 360 for the two adults. Apart from that, the car parking is charged – BGN 15 per day for the open and BGN 18 per day for the underground. Thus, drawing the line, it turns out that for a 5-day vacation around December 31, a couple without children will pay nearly 2,200 leva, not counting the card for the ski lift in the resort.
According to tour operators, the prices of holidays abroad have not risen dramatically compared to last year and last year. However, the same cannot be said for the native resorts.
According to estimates by the Institute for Evaluation and Analysis in Tourism, about 560,000 trips of Bulgarians are expected for Christmas and New Year. About 60,000 will be abroad, and the other half a million will be in Bulgaria. Apart from the winter ones, the most sought after are the balneo and spa resorts, villas and guest houses, explained Rumen Draganov, chairman of the Institute. There is also a demand for hotels with a higher category, although prices this year are between 11-17% higher. Before the coronavirus, the “holiday” price increases in late December and early January ranged from 3% to 7%.
