The Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine (IBMM) of the University of Bern in Switzerland invites applications from outstanding candidates wishing to start their independent research program and who are looking for a host institute in order to apply for a SNSF Starting Grant by January 15, 2025. Grantees will be appointed as non-tenure track Assistant Professors at the University of Bern.

Our Institute

The IBMM is an interdisciplinary institute focusing on the function, structure and pharmacology of membrane proteins such as transporters, ion channels and membrane receptors, with a strong emphasis on their patho­physiological roles in human diseases. To this aim, we combine expertise in biochemistry, chemical synthesis, chemical biology/analytics, electro­physiology, biophysics, molecular biology, cell biology and structural biology. In addition, human ex vivo and genetically modified mouse models are employed to study membrane proteins in different diseases, e.g., cancer, cardiac disorders, preeclampsia and neuropsychiatric disorders.

Selection Procedure
Applications from candidates will be evaluated by the principal investigators of the IBMM. Selected applicants will be invited for an oral presentation and to discuss their research ideas with us.
