With a little delay, the DFL will now commemorate the victims of the corona pandemic. On the next two match days, all clubs in the first and second league will be wearing black ribbon, for HSV this will affect the two top games against Arminia Bielefeld (Sunday) and four days later at VfB Stuttgart.
Had the league association waived a clearly visible sign of mourning at the restart last weekend, it is now making up for it twice.
“The spread of the corona virus has already claimed many lives worldwide. German professional football would like to express its condolences on the next two match days, ”said Christian Seifert, spokesman for the DFL Presidium, in his statement. “At the same time, many thanks and highest appreciation go to all those who work tirelessly in the fight against the effects of the pandemic in medicine, nursing, care, politics and many other areas in our country.”
The HSV and St. Pauli recently competed in the derby with black ribbon
Around 8,100 people have died of the contagion since the start of the corona pandemic. The virus has caused more than 325,000 deaths worldwide.
The HSV last ran against FC St. Pauli (0: 2) with black ribbon in February. At that time, both teams also commemorated a minute’s silence for the victims of the racist attack in Hanau, Hesse.
