At the beginning of 2019, a town in Sicily (Italy) called Sambuca surprised millions of people by announcing that it would sell properties for one Euro (approximately 950 pesos) to boost the economy and counteract the emigration of its inhabitants. Now, due to the success of last year, the authorities announced a phase B of this plan.
This was indicated by the mayor of the town, Giuseppe Caccioppo, who stated in a statement that the new call involves a payment of two euros to acquire one of the homes that are for sale.
In total they are 15 residences located in the center of Sambuca, which need remodeling work by their future owners.
In this sense, the authorities announced that the requirements will be identical to those of the previous year, since the municipality will ask for a deposit of 5,000 Euros (4,661,104 Chilean pesos) at the time of submitting the application.
Along with that, it is required that the remodeling work of each property acquired be carried out in the following three years, to ensure that people actually move to live in that town and that it is not just a “place of rest”.
The first stage of this program was a complete success, they point out, since the municipality received about 110,000 calls from people who were interested in the homes they had put up for sale, which at that time also numbered 15.
The mayor stressed that his town is ideal for people who have retired, since “It has areas with beautiful landscapes, about 18 kilometers of beach, excellent wines and great gastronomy.”
It should be noted that the public call to start this phase B has not yet been made, since the authorities are waiting for the sanitary conditions typical of the coronavirus pandemic to improve.
In this sense, they are alert to the moment when it is possible to travel more freely in Europe and also to lift some mobility restrictions in the United States.
According to Caccioppo, the offers for these houses are real, despite the amounts of money required to apply, since the average cost would be 50,000 euros, about 46 million pesos.
