Lunsen – “If we let children sing, the world can be a little better.” A sentence like a Bach cantata that Julio Fernández is speaking. The Madrid-born Intscheder should know. Because Fernández is a choir director, among others at the University of Bremen and in the parish of Achim-Baden. But he also has years of experience in choir work with children.
The Spaniard has agreed to lead a children’s choir in the integrated community. According to Pastor Anja Sievers from Luns, all young singers from all parishes, i.e. Blender, Intschede and Oiste (Bio) as well as Thedinghausen and Riede, are invited. Of course, unbaptized offspring are also welcome.
Every Thursday from September 16, the five to twelve year olds come to the Lunser Church between 4.30 and 5.15 p.m. to sing. According to Julio Fernández, they practice songs of various genres, including many new popular hymns. Initially unanimously, over time two-part. “If after a year we are in two voices, I would be happy.” But there will definitely be no discrepancies: “Everyone can sing,” emphasizes the choirmaster, who has lived in Germany for 29 years.
It is not just about singing, it is also about conveying a sense of rhythm and child-friendly knowledge of music theory according to the Kodály method.
The contact to Julio Fernández came about through Pastor Sievers. She was approached by mothers from kindergarten. “I would have options”, she was able to delight her interlocutors – and thought of the Intscheder “sheep” Julio Fernández of her husband, Pastor Sebastian Sievers, who worked in the organic congregations.
With the children’s choir, an offer is to be revived that was still there in Thedinghausen up to six years ago, reports its pastor Cathrin Schley. She and her colleague from Lunsen now want to create an offer for the many children in the country again, because the next children’s choir is only back in Achim. But there are so many young people. “When I look at the bus stop in the morning – wow, so many children!” Says Fernández and is happy about the great potential of young singers. The musician is convinced that children would go to singing quite unsuspectingly and freely, unlike what is suggested – artificial and stenciled – on television.
The children can also come to the “kick-off” freely and independently: on Saturday, September 11th, from 3pm to 5pm. The first month is free, after that, according to Anja Sievers, a fee is charged. The rehearsals on Thursday are deliberately only 45 minutes long. After all, the Lütten are already pretty exhausted by the all-day school activity. Appearances are also planned after a certain period of time. Then parents, grandparents and other visitors can convince themselves that the world has already got a little better.
