For 5G, will Apple sacrifice the iPhone 12 battery?

Jakarta

The high production costs due to the use of 5G components are said to have an impact on other components in iPhone 12, namely the battery.

According to Ming-chi Kuo analyst, Apple will use a number of components that are cheaper on the iPhone 12 in order to reduce production costs that are too high due to the use of 5G components.

One of the biggest cost reductions according to Kuo will be in battery technology. That is, Apple will use a battery with fewer layers of the board and put the cell components in a smaller area.

This step according to Kuo will reduce the cost of producing battery modules by 40 to 50% when compared to the iPhone 11. Not only that, Kuo also predicts that the battery iPhone 12 will be 30-40% cheaper because of the design changes.

If you remember, some time ago Apple was also said to no longer provide a charger adapter in the sales package for the iPhone 12. This step may be in line with reducing battery components, namely reducing total production costs.

The reduction in production costs for this battery is done so that Apple can use the desired 5G technology. Like millimeter wave support which will cost as much as USD 125 to USD 135 per unit, and USD 75 to USD 85 for sub 6GHz frequency support.

Not only the iPhone, Apple is also said to be changing the design of the 3rd generation AirPods to save on battery component costs. Namely by using the system-in-package design as used in AirPods Pro, as quoted by detikINET from The Verge, Friday (21/8/2020).

iPhone 12 said to be launched at a press conference to be held on 12 October. However, while Apple will launch the entire iPhone 12 series on that date, the sales will be made at a different time.
