/ world today news/ “Bulgaria’s problem is not the quality of the electoral system, and GERB’s request to extend the life of the parliament is political demagoguery,” political scientist and lawyer Prof. Ivo Hristov said on BNR.
“I think that the president’s answer from yesterday was more than clear that whoever was willing had two months to do this work. Obviously, it is a question of completely different political maneuvers. On the other hand, the ruling Bulgarian oligarchy suddenly saw in the calls for majority vote is a convenient technical means to perpetuate the status quo in the center and in places, and it will actually be so if, God forbid, this system is introduced,” the political scientist believes.
“It is clear to me that the mantra with the majority vote, with the personalities, actually comes to show two clear things. First, the complete catastrophe of the current political system and the political parties in action, which are nothing but political coteries for the representation of the interests of certain cliques. The replacement of political parties with so-called “personalities” means that in fact we do not see that the problem is systemic and does not depend on parties or a change of persons Ivo Hristov.
Prof. Hristov explained what the voter, who is now offered the new electoral system, can do.
“To take salvation into your own hands. While you wait for someone to offer you, you will be an object, not a subject, of the political process and of history in general,” he believes.
“Unfortunately, for 25 years the Bulgarians have shown that they are politically infantile. They have been waiting for someone else to solve their problems for 25 years. The Bulgarian political present is currently a combination of vested political interests, a huge abuse of power and an infantile and passive population that is characterized with two main qualities – a complete lack of understanding of reality and a desire to save everyone individually,” concludes Prof. Ivo Hristov.
