It was a sell out for the last Downtown After 5 event of the year in Kelowna, and a Ron Beahun he will probably never forget.
Reahun, the man responsible for building the Downtown Kelowna Association’s (DKA) On Call and Clean team, was greeted on stage at the Laurel Packing House with warm applause and smiles as he announced his retirement.
The Road Services Manager was the original employee 15 years ago to build and lead the team.
November 30 was a sold-out event, with many of Reahun’s friends and colleagues gathering to accompany him into the sunset.
“It was quite a ride, as they say, and who knows, maybe I’ll be back,” Reahun said at the event.
Over the past five years, Reahun and his team have achieved:
• host 22,166 needles;
• On-call incidents downtown from calls to 250-470-9058: 40,155;
•Downtown on call carried out 46,649 security checks;
• 1,264 graffiti removed or repainted.
The On Street Services team assists with personal safety issues and helps create a positive community environment in downtown Kelowna.
With Beahun retiring, DKA announced that Brent Lobson will join the workforce as Director of Operations.
