The 1955 Mercedes-Benz, one of only two existing cars of this model, was auctioned off for $ 135 million this month. Eur has become the most expensive car ever sold in the world, announced RM Sotheby’s, which organizes auctions of classic cars.

“The 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe was sold at auction for a record € 13 million. Eur price for a private collector, “the company said in a statement.
The car was sold almost three times more expensive than the previous record holder – in 2018 for more than 48 million. USD (EUR 45.6 million) was purchased for the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO.
The auction was for invited participants only on 5 May at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany.
The car is one of two prototypes developed by Mercedes-Benz’s racing division. The machine is named after its developer and chief engineer, Rudolf Uhlenhaut, according to RM Sotheby’s.
“The private buyer has agreed that the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe will continue to be available to the public on special occasions, and the second original 300 SLR Coupe will remain the company’s property and will continue to be on display at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart,” the auction said.
RM Sotheby’s says the money from the sale of the car will be used to set up a global Mercedes-Benz fund to fund environmental science and decarbonisation research.
