For its 33rd edition, this year’s Science Festival is focusing on the vast expanses of salt water that cover 70% of the planet. Dozens of events are organized in Strasbourg and its surroundings from October 4 and until October 14. To take advantage of it, we offer you a small, non-exhaustive selection.

Like every year, and from today, the Science Festival returns to Strasbourg and its surrounding areas. Nobel Prize, waterfall activities or even a stroll along the water: to not miss anything, all you have to do is follow the guide on her boat!

Step 1: a conference with two Nobel Prize winners

This Friday, October 4, the Maison des arts in Lingolsheim is hosting an exceptional conference by Professor Jean-Marie Lehn, Nobel Prize winner in chemistry in 1987.

On the program: science in general, with chemistry at the center of the table, because it is interested in the interactions between molecules and their organization. Titled Steps to life: chemistry!this presentation will be introduced by Jean-Pierre Sauvage, another emeritus professor at the University of Strasbourg, Nobel Prize winner in chemistry in 2016.

Step 2: in the footsteps of water in the city

This year, the Science Festival coincides with the inauguration of the Tobacco Factory. On this occasion, the Rhine-Meuse Water Agency and the Strasbourg Eurometropolis will organize a puzzle walk on the paths of water and biodiversity in the city. An event open to everyone, from 6 years old.

Step 3: know everything about gravel pits

Rivers, water tables, gravel pits… Alsatian aquatic environments are diverse and varied. What species can we find there? How will they confront climate change? This is the theme of a conference which will be offered on Monday October 7 by hydroecologist Serge Dumont.

Step 4: Strasbourg soon under water?

A river metropolis, Strasbourg developed on the banks of the Ill and had to deal with its hazards. A walk peppered with anecdotes will look back on its history, Saturday October 12. In addition, events on flooding will take place at the 5th Location.

Step 5: Cascading Animations

A major place for popularizing science in Strasbourg, the Vaisseau will also be part of the celebration with numerous events. On the program in particular, a workshop to learn how to make water drinkable in nature thanks to the advice of a survival expert, challenges around water to carry out as a family, or even a collaborative exploration of the different aspects of marine life.
