The soccer World Cup is also raising a lot of dust in the center of Vienna. In “Today” fans are now thundering against the policy of FIFA and Qatar.
A street survey in central Vienna quickly made that clear: when desert football flashes across the screen, very few people can look away. But instead of joy for the football party, a depressing feeling spreads. “Today” asked the Viennese what they think of the scandalous mega-event (video above).

“Like in the deepest Middle Ages”
Pupil Jan (17) always has to think about the tens of thousands of people who lost their lives during the construction of the stadiums. “What happened to the workers all around is just a disaster,” he says.
Karin (65) is moved: “It’s just awful and unpleasant, that’s why I don’t watch this time. Of course, my heart beats for women, but also for migrants. I’ve always watched the World Cup, but not this time. It doesn’t work at all, it is like in the deepest Middle Ages.”
Banning the “One Love” loop is the last straw. “Politics in Qatar is not the policy FIFA should support,” criticizes Lars (27) from Germany.
