Football: Vinicius Junior narrowly avoided becoming a hero for Real Madrid

Vinicius Junior was at the center as Real Madrid reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

In the 54th minute, he drew a yellow card when he pushed Willi Orban over by pressing with both hands on Orban’s neck. An action that could very well have resulted in a red card, but stopped at a yellow.

He thanked for that by making it 1-0 to Madrid in the 65th minute, who had 1-0 to go on from the first meeting with Leipzig. And it turned out to be an important goal.

Because three minutes later, perhaps filled with anger, Orban would respond by heading in a cross from the box to make it 1-1.

The match ended 1-1, despite several good chances from Leipzig at the end, which made Vinicius Junior’s goal decisive in Madrid’s 2-1 win over two legs.

– It was not our best match of the season. They played well and we didn’t, but we have to be happy considering that we’re through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, says Real Madrid’s Nacho Fernandez according to AP.

In tonight’s second meeting in the Champions League, Manchester City won, as expected, against Copenhagen 3-1, 6-2 in two games.
