The national champion and continental Flamengo celebrated Thursday the resumption of football in Brazil, after three months of interruption, for a 3-0 win, in a meeting of the championship of the State of Rio de Janeiro organized despite the spread always quick Covid-19.
On the lawn of the famous Maracana stadium, which celebrated the 70 years of its inauguration without spectators because of the pandemic, players of Flamengo beat without hardly a modest team of Bangu, in spite of an obvious lack of pace.
The game Thursday was the first meeting of the championship of Rio from the 16th of march, in the second brazilian State most affected by the pandemic (more than 87’000 contamination at the Covid-19 and nearly 8,500 dead). On the national plan, Brazil is also one of the countries with the most cases (nearly one million) and deaths (more than 45,000) in the world.

The recovery is not unanimous
The recovery is far from unanimous, including among the clubs: Fluminense and Botafogo, two of the four major teams of the city, have threatened to boycott the tournament and attack the federation in the courts. Before Thursday’s meeting, supporters of the six clubs gathered near the Maracana to protest against the federal and regional government as well as the city, which has given its green light for the return of football.
