Old iron doesn’t rust: In the new European football league ELF, the team from Hanover-Hildesheim starts under the name “German Knights 1367 Lower Saxony”. The tin flies away!
The team name, which is not very obvious in time, refers to the allied Hanoverians and Hildesheim knights who defeated Duke Magnus of Braunschweig and his armed forces in the battle of Dinklar on September 3, 1367 despite being clearly outnumbered. The question arises: 653 years later, is the ELF franchise afraid of only being able to recruit a few players?
Hildesheim-Ritter: Football coach Fatah feels the spirit of optimism
“For me, after many years in European football, it is just fantastic to be able to take part in such a special and unique project,” says Hildesheim head coach Shuan Fatah: “I can literally feel the optimism around us.”
European League of Football startet im Juni 2021
The European League of Football with its Hamburg commissioner Patrick Esume is due to start playing in June 2021 with six teams from Germany and one representative each from Poland and Spain. Hildesheim’s general manager Chris Heyne is also expecting a lot from the project: “NFL football has been all the rage on TV for several years now, and we want to stage this unique mix of spectacular sport and a great family event for a large audience.”

If the “German Knights” stick to their historical role models, only a few children are likely to experience the decisive phases of the games. In 1367 the Hildesheimers succeeded in routing the Guelph troops by means of a nightly surprise attack. The main thing is that the floodlights work.
