Frankfurt / Main (dpa) – World star Cristiano Ronaldo chose André Silva as his potential successor years ago. “If I step down, Portugal will be in good hands,” he said in summer 2017. “Because the team has already found a great striker: André Silva.”

Back then, Silva had just moved from FC Porto to AC Milan for 38 million euros. However, he could not cope there and after a loan to FC Sevilla moved to Eintracht Frankfurt – where he is now one of the best Bundesliga scorers with 16 goals in 19 games.

“It’s amazing! His development is great,” said Eintracht sports director Fredi Bobic after the 3-1 (0-0) win against Hertha BSC, to which the 25-year-old Portuguese scored with a header (67th minute) and a converted penalty had contributed in stoppage time. It was already the fifth double for Silva, who also set a Eintracht record with 16 goals after 19 games. “I hope it doesn’t stay at 16 goals this season,” said Bobic.

“Impressive”, says Frankfurt coach Adi Hütter, Silva’s accuracy, who was initially unable to convince on the Main. Only since the Corona restart last season has the attacker been shooting goals non-stop. “The moment feels great,” said Silva after the Hertha game.
