London (AP) – Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most insulted players in the Premier League on Twitter.
This is the result of an analysis by the British media regulator Ofcom and the Alan Turing Institute, which published that a total of 68 percent of Premier League professionals have already fallen victim to abusive messages on the online platform. To determine the numbers, 2.3 million tweets from the first five months of the 2021/22 season were analyzed.
According to the Alan Turing Institute, Ronaldo, who plays for Manchester United, has received 12,520 abusive messages. The Portuguese was followed by his teammates Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford. The most affected club was Tottenham Hotspur.
According to this, a total of 57 percent of the tweets were positive, but almost 60,000 (3.5 percent) were offensive. Almost seven percent of the players were affected daily. As Ofcom and the Alan Turing Institute further announced, 50 percent of the tweets would have affected only twelve professionals. On average, they received 15 messages a day.
