Football: police on horseback, masked supporters … Seville to relaunch La Liga – sports news

In the early evening, around 200 supporters, almost all masked, gathered around the Pizjuan stadium in central Seville, where the first Liga match will take place since the end of competitions in the country due to the pandemic , March 12, to accommodate the buses of the two teams.

Supporters ready to do anything to support their favorite players even in a pandemic, despite the wide security system deployed: 600 members of the police deployed, police patrols on horseback, blocked streets, barriers erected around the stadium. which ended up discouraging most of the fans, who were dispersed before kick-off.

“It’s very weird, it’s different. (This derby) we live with sadness (because of the camera), but other than that, it’s still just as intense, “says Laura Marin (23), young supporter of Seville FC, near the stadium for the arrival of players’ buses.

José Luis Meana, a Sevilla FC supporter who also came to encourage the players on their arrival, will however follow the match on the radio to comply with health standards. He told AFP that despite the ban on access to the stadium, he lived this derby “with great passion, because the football we love so much is back”.

“We do not know what form the players will be in, if they have completed their duties. (…) We are also concerned about the atmosphere in general, we hope that there will be no new wave, with the fact that people are gathering … “, worries the supporter. “Without an audience, but with hope!” Shouts a supporter in his sixties as he walks past the stadium, Sevilla FC jersey flanked on his back.

In Seville, where the derby is one of the hottest in Spain, like in Bilbao, Madrid or Barcelona, garlands of shirts from Spanish clubs were hung in the busy streets, to revive the craze … but after three months of lethargy, the flame had a hard time taking.

A few minutes before kick-off, all the supporters were dispersed, and only a few journalists remained on the forecourt of Pizjuan stadium.
