Football Player Crashes into Sports Hall with Alcohol in Blood: Arrested and Prosecuted

The accident occurred on March 30 at the Flémalle sports hall. Sofian Kiyine, a player from Oud-Heverlee Leuven, alone in a car, crashed into the roundabout at full speed before flying several meters and ending his race in the sports hall. Wounded, he had to be extricated and taken to hospital.

Toxicological analyzes showed that the 25-year-old midfielder had 1.6 grams of alcohol in his blood.

On Thursday, the driver was deprived of his liberty to be questioned by Flémalle police investigators on the causes of the accident. He explained that he had consumed alcoholic beverages before getting back behind the wheel and becoming unwell.

Sofian Kiyine was released on Thursday, but he is being prosecuted and will soon have to appear before the Liège police court.

The player remains excluded from his club Oud-Heverlee Louvain for an indefinite period.
