Football offspring of the Lübeck Cougars return to the field after a two-year Corona break

While the second division footballers have already played five of their ten season games, the offspring of the Lübeck Cougars can finally play again. On Saturday (3 p.m.) the U19 of the mountain lions will play their first competitive game in the GFL Juniors youth division of the Hamburg Young Huskies after almost two years of forced Corona break.

Only four games for Lübeck’s U19 footballer have been scheduled

However, due to the consequences of the pandemic, it will probably be a very short season, because the northern season of the GFL Juniors was again divided into two groups of three, so that the Cougars have only played four games against the Hamburg teams of the Young Huskies and the Junior Devils (both leg and leg) are scheduled.

It is possible, however, that there will be interconference games against teams from the other northern season (Berlin Adler, Berlin Rebels and Dresden Monarchs). “We want to keep the schedules in all leagues as flexible as possible. It is important that the game is played again at all. A second year without a league would be a disaster, ”says Jan Bublitz, President of the American Football and Cheerleading Association Schleswig-Holstein.

The rest of the leagues in the north should start in August

The season opener for the U19 Bundesliga is just the beginning. In August all other senior and junior leagues in the north start from the regional league downwards. With the Cougars, the second men, the U16, U13 and the flag footballers get back on track. “It is incredibly important to start again, especially in the youth sector. Otherwise whole teams could break away because the guys are looking for other sports. That would set us back years, ”says Sven Johanßen, youth manager at USC Lübeck.

And Jamie Dale, head coach of the U19, explains: “We have trained well, the boys can’t wait to finally get started. But our most important task is to prepare the team for 2022, when hopefully everything will go back to normal. ”Nevertheless, Dale would like to take some wins in the short season. The first preferably already on Saturday with the Youngs Huskies.
