In Group G, it is a super drama between the Netherlands, Norway and Turkey. The neighboring country hosted Latvia on Saturday night, who had nothing to play for.
On a packed Ullevål, Norway had the most ball in the first half, but the hottest goal chances shone with their absence. The first 45 minutes ended goalless.
The conditions for Norway
In the second half, the home team increased the tempo and in the 80th minute of the match, the zero was broken – everyone thought. Mohamed Elyounoussi appeared at the second post and nodded in 1-0. But after a VAR review, the case was ruled offside. Norway forced for one goal but Latvia, sensationally enough, held off, and the match ended 0-0.
The result meant that the World Cup is far away for the Norwegians. In parallel, Turkey drove over Gibraltar 6-0 and stepped past and up to second place, thanks to a better goal difference. Now Norway must go and defeat the Netherlands away – but not even a victory there can be enough. At the same time, Turkey must lose points against Montenegro. The Netherlands, in turn, can secure a World Cup ticket tonight, but then they must defeat Montenegro.
