DOHA (Reuters) – The Morocco national team, who are doing well at the World Cup in Qatar, will be looking to upset defending champions France in the semi-finals on Wednesday.

Morocco, ranked 22 in the International Football Federation (FIFA), defeated Belgium, ranked 2, in the first round of the tournament. In the round of 16, they defeated 7th-placed Spain and 9th-placed Portugal, making them the first African team to advance to the semi-finals of the World Cup.

Morocco have conceded just one goal in their last five games. Only the own goal in the first league game against Canada was scored by the opponent. However, Frenchman Kylian Mbappé, ranked 4th in the FIFA rankings, scored 5 goals, his most in this tournament. Olivier Giroud also scored four goals.

Morocco manager Walid Legragi said: “We are the team that everyone loves in this World Cup because we have shown that you can be successful without having the strength or money of other teams.”
