The Miami Dolphins made the NFL playoffs despite failing to score a touchdown on the final day of the regular season.
Miami won 9-6 against the New York Jets after three field goals on Sunday (08.01.2023). Jason Sanders’ final field goal 18 seconds before the end of the game dashed hopes for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who beat the Cleveland Browns 28-14 and would have made the playoffs if the Dolphins had lost.
The New England Patriots were also in the running, but lost 23:35 to the Buffalo Bills.
Damar Hamlin, who remains in intensive care following cardiac arrest, appeared to be watching the game. Mahomes sets the record
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes already set a new NFL record on Saturday. The Kansas City Chiefs playmaker set a new season-long total yards record in a 31-13 win at the Las Vegas Raiders. The Chiefs also secured a bye to the first round of the playoffs with a 14-3 win and first place in the AFC.
Mahomes passed for 202 yards and rushed for 29 more for a total of 5,608 yards this season. The 2019 Super Bowl champion broke the previous record of 5,562 yards set by Drew Brees for the New Orleans Saints in 2011. Mahomes benefited from the fact that the regular season was extended to 17 games per team from this season. Previously, it was just 16 games per franchise.
Jacksonville Jaguars in the den playoffs
The Jacksonville Jaguars made the playoffs for the first time in five years. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s team captured first place in the AFC South with a 20-16 victory over the Tennessee Titans for their fifth straight victory. The Jaguars, the worst team in the league last season, won 9:8.
