The Liverpool club on Saturday condemned the “unacceptable attitude” of thousands of their fans. They gathered the day before to celebrate the title of champion of England of the Reds, in defiance of the rules of social distancing in force.
“Several thousand people went to Pier Head on Friday June 26 and some chose to ignore advice on social distancing and endanger public safety,” the club said in a joint statement with city council and local police. “Our city is still facing a public health crisis and this behavior is completely unacceptable,” the press release continued.
Liverpool won their first title of champion of England in 30 years Thursday evening, which caused scenes of jubilation in the city of the north of England. A listed building, the Liver Building, was thus hit by fireworks, which caused a fire.

“When it is safely possible, we will all work together to organize a victory parade,” promise the three signatories of the statement. “In the meantime, the safety of our city and its people continues to be our number one priority.”
