This weekend, Mediapro did not honor its payment deadline for TV rights to the LFP for the second time in a row.
In total, the Sino-Spanish group owes nearly 350 ME to the Professional Football League. Despite this refusal to pay for three months, Téléfoot continues to broadcast Ligue 1 as if nothing had happened. And if Canal + is ready to take over by recovering 100% of the rights to the French championship for a total of around 600 ME, the encrypted channel wants the conflict between Mediapro and the LFP be regulated so as not to be at fault. This week could mark a decisive turning point in this hot issue which threatens the financial balance of French football. And for good reason, Daniel Riolo dropped a real bomb on the antenna of RMC by revealing that the audiovisual group chaired by Jaume Roures could withdraw from Ligue 1… as of this week!
“It is not impossible that Mediapro will withdraw this week” simply slipped the columnist of the After Foot, specifying then that the information required final verifications, but that it was more than likely that Téléfoot disappear in the coming days. An announcement which obviously caused the effect of a bomb, and which raises a number of questions. What about subscriptions, which TV broadcast for the weekend matches? So many uncertainties looming, while Marc Sénéchal, the conciliator appointed by the Commercial Court of Nanterre must speak Thursday before the board of directors of the Professional Football League. Obviously, the next few days will be absolutely decisive. But anyway, we don’t really see how Mediapro could still be part of the French audiovisual landscape in the medium term given the seriousness of the current conflict …
