Football legends bow to Adi Hütter

His time at Borussia Mönchengladbach came to a rather sad end the summer before last – now Adi Hütter is one of the most respected coaches in the French Ligue 1.

After the former Gladbach and Frankfurt coach took a sabbatical in the 2022/23 season, he signed a two-year contract with AS Monaco for the current season. The 53-year-old Austrian was able to make a name for himself there in the first five months. He is held in high esteem by, among others, a Bundesliga legend from France.

“I am impressed by his calm but determined manner,” said former Bremen master director Johan Micoud recently L´équipe TV: „You could immediately recognize his handwriting and his game analyzes are always clear and structured. With this squad he can lead Monaco back to the Champions League.”

That they don’t play European; could help the team from the Mediterranean coast later in the season and give them a good chance of qualifying for international business, as they have fewer pressures than their direct competition. But Hütter as a person has also become a beacon of hope in the Monegasque community.

“Hütter convinced me,” said ex-Monaco player Emmanuel Petit recently RMC Sport. Zinédine Zidane’s 1998 World Cup winning teammate added: He has reached the team, he has formed a solid unit out of this group, which still shows some fluctuations in its game, but which has a lot of potential and shows an attractive style.

This Friday is the top game in Paris’s Prinzenpark against the reigning and once again overwhelming favorite Paris Saint-Germain. The Parisians have been decimated after this international break (Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, Kimpembe, Zaire-Emery are out) and have shown little consistency under Luis Enrique so far.

“Monaco will not hide and has repeatedly hurt PSG in the past,” says Petit: “Hütter is a coach who is courageous and sets up an attack. He will have his match plan and want to see it through. This game is certainly extremely important for him too, in order to determine where his team really stands and whether they could even play for the championship title. You can’t rule that out today.”

The long-distance duel with Luis Enrique will be “an interesting encounter to see who has the better plan and who reacts best depending on the development of the game.”

The former coach of Borussia Mönchengladbach hardly speaks French, but that helps him: he can talk to Breel Embolo, Philipp Köhn and Ismail Jakobs, among others, in German. The calm and hardly any pressure on the Mediterranean also seems to have a positive effect on Hütter’s work.

The big goal of the season is to lead Monaco back into the Champions League – if they actually win the title, it would be the crowning achievement of their career so far.
