The French military women’s football team won the world championship organized in the United States on Saturday. Two MFC-TG players took part in the adventure and brought home a gold medal.
After a first coronation in 2016, the French military women’s football team won its second world title. Led 1-0 by Cameroon at half-time, Les Bleues turned the tide in the second half to win 2-1. Two Montalbanaises, Léa Gauthier and Marion Braunwart, both reservists for the Army and players at the MFC-TG, were on the trip to the United States, among the 21 players from the first and second divisions chosen to represent the colors of the France.
Marion Braunwart, 24-year-old left midfielder, even made a name for herself by offering an assist to Rachel Corboz for the equalizing goal just after half-time. 22-year-old defender Léa Gauthier also participated in Les Bleues’ flawless run – five wins in as many games, 19 goals scored and two conceded. Mickaël Combaud, assistant coach of MFC-TG, is struggling to hide his pride. “I had them on the phone several times during the competition, it was an exceptional experience that they had. The cohesion of the group was top, and on top of that they achieved a dream course” says- he. “Obviously, it also gives the club a good image, it shows that we are working well,” adds the technician. The two young women will now be able to enjoy a little rest and avoid the resumption of training scheduled for Thursday for the women’s D2 club. We are not everyday world champions.
