Football: Gais took the first derby victory against IFK Göteborg in the Allsvenskan since 2011

See the Gais goals in the first Allsvenskan derby win against IFK Gothenburg since 2011.

The hot Gothenburg derby got off to a flying start with a penalty situation after only two minutes of play when Axel Henriksson fell over in Blåvitt’s penalty area.

The situation led to wild protests from the Gais players but it all ended with an offside whistle from head referee Victor Wolf.

After just over half an hour, Gais received a free kick in a dangerous position. Robin Wendin Tomasson took care of it and found an unguarded Henriksson who poked in the lead goal at the first post.

Double giant modes

Paulos Abraham then had a brilliant opportunity to equalize for IFK Göteborg a quarter into the second but the striker shot over.

Just minutes later, Jack Cooper-Love had a great opportunity at the other end of the field, but Gustav Svensson managed to block it for a corner.

Instead, the extension came in the 76th minute when Harun Ibrahim found Alexander Ahl-Holmström who broke free against Elis Bishesari to score his third goal of the season.

“We run over them”

IFK Göteborg chased a reduction and finally got a payoff when Abraham took revenge, after the earlier miss, in the final minutes. Gais held off the final push and secured the victory.

– You shouldn’t complain, it’s fantastic. We fight and run the whole match, we don’t back down in any duel and run over them. We are inside their heads, says Ahl-Holmström to SVT Sport after the match.

The last time Gais won an Allsvenskan derby against IFK Göteborg was on October 17, 2011 (1–0).

Don’t miss SVT’s Allsvenskan magazine “Fotbollsstudion” starting on 22 October.
