Freiburg (dpa) – Goal scorer Nils Petersen from the Bundesliga club SC Freiburg believes that many football fans of his team and coach Christian Streich treat the title in the final of the DFB Cup against RB Leipzig. “I’m sure that a lot of people in Germany want a Freiburg victory and I just wish Christian Streich to win something. The whole of Germany would like to see him pull the thing up,” said Petersen in the “Sport picture” (Wednesday). “It would be a gift from us to him.”
The duel on Saturday (8 p.m. / ARD and Sky) is the first final participation of the Breisgauer. Before that, the greatest success was reaching the semi-finals in 2013. Opponents Leipzig are in the Olympic Stadium for the third time. The Saxons have not yet won the cup.
Petersen sees the Sport-Club well prepared, “because we don’t bear the pressure of having lost the final twice. We’ve also won five times away from home this cup season and this game is another away game. On paper we’re outsiders, Nevertheless, we are all looking for an outsider victory and believe that we can be that decisive percentage point better.”
