Football – Freiburg im Breisgau – Solar power plant on the roof of the football stadium inaugurated – Sport

Freiburg (dpa/lsw) – As part of the season opening of the Bundesliga club SC Freiburg, the club, the city of Freiburg and the energy supplier Badenova inaugurated the solar power plant on the roof of the Europa-Park stadium. It ranks among the largest on a football arena worldwide.

SC CFO Oliver Leki and Freiburg’s Lord Mayor Martin Horn, together with Badenova representatives in the center circle, pressed an oversized power switch on Saturday – a symbolic starting signal for the 2.4 megawatt system. This will not actually go online until September. It should then cover the currently forecast annual electricity requirements of the Europa-Park stadium CO2-free. For Lord Mayor Horn, this is “a clear statement for climate protection, sustainability and renewable energies”.
