Freiburg (dpa) – After the commitment of striker Anthony Modeste, Bundesliga soccer club Borussia Dortmund wants to hold back on the market until the end of the transfer period. “Of course, many names will continue to be associated with us, we’ll look at it up to the last day. We don’t yet know exactly what will happen on the delivery side,” said sports director Sebastian Kehl before the away game at SC on Friday evening Freiburg at DAZN, “but we won’t shoot really big things anymore”.
Even with the change of Modeste, who came from league rivals 1. FC Köln for around five million euros and is to replace Sébastian Haller, who suffers from testicular cancer, BVB had to stretch financially. “We didn’t budget for that anymore,” said Kehl. It was therefore “not easy” to “find a good nine”.
Kehl is convinced that this was found in Modeste. They signed a player “who knows the Bundesliga, who speaks German, who integrates quickly, is incredibly dangerous and has a good header,” enthused the ex-national player: “With him we have gained a weapon that our squad is very interested in feels good.”
