Football: Freiburg becomes Bayern’s first hunter

The Italian Grifo scored twice from the penalty spot (4′, 20′) and once from the counterattack (6′). According to data provider Opta, it was the first hat-trick in the German Bundesliga in 31 years. Gregoritsch fixes the break with a lob (45+1).

Sven Michel (85′) scored the consolation goal from the penalty spot for the disappointing Berlin side, decimated in the 19th minute (red card for Diogo Leite). Gregoritsch was on the field until the 69th minute, Philipp Lienhart played for the winners and his ÖFB teammate Christopher Trimmel for the guests, who caused the 3-0 penalty with a hand ball.

After the World Cup break, Freiburg are the first challengers Bayern face the rest of the season, four points behind the leaders. With just one point from the English week, the Berliners slipped from the top of the table to fifth place.

Mainz and Frankfurt share points in the derby

Eintracht Frankfurt, however, failed to fully ennoble a great year. Upper Austrian coach Oliver Glasner’s team only managed a 1-1 (0-1) draw in the Rhein-Main derby at FSV Mainz 05. The Europa League winner can still go to the cup break of the World with satisfaction, given that Hessen spend the winter in fourth place in the table and in the round of 16 in the Champions League and DFB Cup.

For Mainz, however, with Karim Onisiwo until the 85th minute, the last competitive match of this year ended on a happy note after three consecutive defeats in the Bundesliga. Jonathan Burkardt (40) gave the home side the lead, but Ranal Kolo Muani (67) equalized.
