Argentina’s former World Cup coach Carlos Bilardo is infected with the corona virus. The 82-year-old was tested positive, but was in good shape and felt no symptoms, the Reuters news agency quoted a source close to Bilardo. The former star trainer has been living in a nursing home in Buenos Aires since 2018.
Bilardo became world champion with Argentina in 1986 with a 3-2 victory over Germany and advanced four years later with Diego Maradona and Co. to the World Cup final – this final in Rome was won by the Germans.
As a player, he won the Copa Libertadores, the most important club competition in South America, three times from 1968 to 1970 with Estudiantes. In Argentina, more than 1,100 people have died of Covid-19, according to official figures.
