Football: Dortmund gives Frankfurt a false start

At the top of the table, however, is VfB Stuttgart, who shot down the promoted SpVgg Greuther Fürth 5-1 even without the ÖFB team striker Sasa Kalajdzic, who suffered from Covid-19. VfL Wolfsburg also achieved success with a 1-0 win against VfL Bochum and TSG Hoffenheim, which won 4-0 at FC Augsburg. Arminia Bielefeld and SC Freiburg separated 0-0, Union Berlin and Bayer Leverkusen 1-1.

Title co-favorite RB Leipzig will only appear at FSV Mainz 05 on Sunday. Series champion Bayern Munich had not made it past a 1-1 draw at Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday.

BVB sets Bayern start record

In Dortmund, the outstanding attackers Haaland and Marco Reus Neo-Trainer Marco Rose made a spectacular debut. Thanks to goals from Reus (23rd / 100th Bundesliga goal), Thorgan Hazard (32nd), Haaland (34th, 70th) and Giovanni Reyna (58th), BVB achieved their seventh opening win in a row in front of 25,000 spectators. This set Bayern’s league record from 2012 to 2018.

For Frankfurt, however, the false start is perfect a week after the 2-0 defeat at third division Waldhof Mannheim. The interim 1: 1 equalization through an own goal by Felix Passlack (27th) and the late second goal by newcomer Jens Petter Hauge (86th) could not change that.

Haaland involved in all five goals

Although Borussia had to do without numerous well-known players such as Mats Hummels, Emre Can, Thomas Meunier and Julian Brandt, they took over the direction from the start. Above all, the intensive pressing prescribed by ex-Salzburg coach Rose caused enormous problems for Eintracht. Even the own goal couldn’t stop their vigor. Before the break, they hit back twice – and both times Haaland was involved. At 2-1 through Hazard, the Norwegian did the preparatory work, at 3-1 he scored himself from twelve meters after conquering the ball against Ilsanker.

After the break, BVB first shifted down a gear, but the game was decided with the 4: 1 by Reyna from a short distance after repeated preparatory work by Haaland. The big show of the two exceptional talent in Dortmund attack was rounded off by the 5: 1 when Reus Haaland served exemplary and the Norwegian turned the stadium into a madhouse with his 62nd goal in the 61st competitive game for BVB.

Stuttgart victory without Kalajdzic

Stuttgart took the lead without Kalajdzic against Fürth after half an hour through Wataru Endo, who replaced Philipp Klement (36th) in the ninth minute for the ailing Atakan Karazor. Marc-Oliver Kempf (55th, 76th) and Hamadi Al Ghaddioui (61th) made the balance of power even clearer. Substitute Jamie Leweling (93rd) only managed the consolation goal for the Franks.

Wolfsburg coach Mark van Bommel made a successful Bundesliga debut, even if the success against promoted Bochum was narrow. Wout Weghorst initially missed the huge chance to take the lead, the Dutch striker failed with a hand penalty caused by Robert Tesche at Bochum goalkeeper Manuel Riemann (5th). Tesche saw the red card. Wolfsburg (with Xaver Schlager up to the 81st minute) were then superior to ten guest players, Weghorst (22nd) made up for his faux pas with the winning goal.

Hoffenheim prevailed with Christoph Baumgartner (up to 74th minute), but without the ailing Florian Grillitsch in Augsburg. Jacob Bruun Larsen (37th) scored first, in the finish Sargis Adamyan (79th), Georginio Rutter (87th) and Sebastian Rudy (95th) made the big victory perfect. Andrej Kramaric prepared the first three goals from Hoffenheim.

Draws in Bielefeld and Berlin

There was a division of points for the “Austrian branch” Bielefeld against Freiburg. Arminia newcomer Alessando Schöpf played through, as did captain Manuel Prietl, Christian Gebauer and Patrick Wimmer, who recently came from Vienna Austria, followed the game from the bench.

Leverkusen also had to be satisfied with a draw when coach Gerardo Seoane made his debut at Union Berlin. Taiwo Awoniyi (7th) for the “Iron” of captain Christopher Trimmel (up to 81st) and Moussa Diaby (12th) for the Werkself scored the early goals in the duel between the two European Cup starters. Julian Baumgartlinger did not appear at Leverkusen until the 89th minute.
