Denmark striker Yussuf Poulsen regrets the loss of his friend and teammate Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig. The striker missed the World Cup in Qatar with a torn knee ligament shortly before the French team took off.

“It’s a real shame for him,” Poulsen said at a media event for the Danes at the World Cup training ground in Al-Rayyan on Sunday. “It would have been his first World Cup – and he’s been really good over the last year and a half, playing at the highest level.”

Poulsen and Nkunku are close friends in Leipzig. “We sit next to each other in the dressing room and our boys go to the same facility,” said Poulsen. “I talked to him and obviously he’s really down now.” Holders France and EURO semi-finalists Denmark will meet in the second group stage match of the World Cup on 26 November in Doha.
