Chilean football star Arturo Vidal, as well as players from his Colo Colo team (Chilean 1st division) are the target of a complaint for sexual assault, the Santiago prosecutor’s office said on Monday. In a brief message to the press, the prosecutor’s office indicates that there is “a complaint for sexual assault” which targets “Colo Colo players” including Arturo Vidal, but that “no one has been arrested”. The names of the other players involved have not been revealed.
According to local media, the reported sexual assault occurred in the early hours of Monday in a Santiago nightclub, where a group of Colo Colo players were celebrating a birthday.
Police colonel Gerardo Aravena told the press that Arturo Vidal, 37 years old, 142 caps for the national team, 34 goals, who notably played for Barcelona, Bayern Munich, or Juventus, is the only one to have been taken to the police station for a simple identity check.
The victim thinks she was drugged
According to Teletrece, the Colo Colo players tried to flee when the police arrived. Taken to the station, they were quickly released. As for the alleged victim, a 22-year-old woman, she reportedly had difficulty speaking and maintaining her balance even though she had not consumed alcohol. In a state of shock, she is convinced she was drugged.
An alleged rape case has shaken Chilean football for a week, with the detention of former international Jorge Valdivia, who retires in 2022.
