Football: Chelsea won against Barcelona for the first time ever: “No one should get carried away”

– It’s only half time. Nobody should get carried away by that and to be honest I’m disappointed we didn’t get the second goal, says Chelsea coach Emma Hayes to DAZN according to the BBC.

The last time Barcelona lost at home was against Huelva, 2-3, in February 2019.

The winning goal was scored by Erin Cuthbert, voted Chelsea’s best player, at the end of the first half. She darted sideways into the penalty area and clipped the ball in for 1-0 at the Olympic Stadium built for the 1992 Games.

Barcelona had a penalty disallowed after VAR review in the second half. In the tenth extra minute, Alexia Putellas had the great equalizing chance. The ball was headed forward and from a couple of meters she shot wide and could hardly believe her eyes when the ball slipped wide.

“Barcelona has another level in itself”

She received a comforting hug from Fridolina Rolfö afterwards.

The return takes place at Stamford Bridge in London in a week. And there is great respect for reigning champion Barcelona.

– We have underperformed when we played at home. Barcelona has another level in itself and I think that is clear. Maybe they don’t feel they were at their best today and we have to take that into account, says Chelsea coach Emma Hayes.

In the other semi-final, Lyon and Paris SG meet in an all-French showdown.
