ALWAKRA, Qatar (Reuters) – Cameroon coach Rigobert Song, who will be in Group G at the World Cup in Qatar, will have goalkeeper Andre Onana (Inter) unused for disciplinary reasons.
Although the match temporarily led 1–3, it was drawn to a 3–3 draw and scored 1 point. Coach Song commented after the match: “I thought we were doomed after conceding two goals in injury time in the first half, but the players got back up.
Song, who reportedly disagreed with Onana on tactics, said, “He (Onan) is a very important player, but we are in the tournament. My role is to put the team before the individual.”
“I’ve taken a lot of risks, but I’m the father of these children. When I have to take risks and make decisions, I take responsibility.”
Regarding Onana, he said: “We’ll see how it goes. It depends if he’s disciplined again.”
