Coach Pellegrino Matarazzo, 43, has prematurely extended his contract with Bundesliga soccer club VfB Stuttgart for another two years until 2024. According to media reports, the American, who has coached VfB since the end of December 2019 and led back to the Bundesliga, should have an exit clause for 2023. “Rino fully met our expectations from the first day of cooperation,” said CEO Thomas Hitzlsperger. Matarazzo identifies with the way the club relies on young players who are capable of development, and his signature is “clearly recognizable”. Sports director Sven Mislintat called Matarazzo a “decisive factor”. The coach is characterized by an outstanding leadership as well as by his opponent analysis and the promotion of talents. Matarazzo emphasized that he felt “very much at home at VfB” and that he “had a lot of fun” with his work.
