Football is not everything in Roberto Ovelar’s life, as he accompanies him with the passion for reading that leads him to express himself and write with finesse. As a country man, “Búfalo” is always with his family in his hometown with his parents and siblings. Long-distanced in five countries, Roberto is on vacation.

– How was the passion for reading born?
–I have always liked to read, being in school the subject that most interested him was history. When I went to Colombia, being there is where I began to meet people who read and that’s how they began to recommend books to me, but I’m not a born reader either.
– Did someone recommend doing it?
Yes, I have several friends who read a lot, mostly they are old and others not so much. They always invite me to read and recommend books.
– How many and what books did you read?
–The truth is I have no idea how many books I have already read, and I quite like the critical books by José Saramago, Eduardo Galeano, Yuval Noah Harari. To read there are many writers.
– A lot of decision to comment on political issues, too?
– I like politics a lot, I think we should talk about it because it concerns us all and we are responsible for seeking a better future for our children.
–Football, books and family, in your life.
–Football in my life represents opportunity, passion, discipline and it is a fundamental part of my life. The books, I would say, have taught me to question that perhaps if I did not read, I would go to the easier side, which is where the majority are going; That does not mean that I am not wrong about certain things, but I have learned that it is very important to question. My family is everything, my fundamental pillar in all aspects of my life.
–Always as a country man, with yours.
Yes, I love that life. I have my parents alive, that is something very important; They were the ones who taught us to know how to work in the fields, we grew up in that environment of tranquility, living among nature and animals for me that is life. Love to the land where you were born.
– What comes in football 2021 and where?
– I have an opportunity again in a country where I grew a lot as a footballer and we made the decision with the family to go to Peru to play for a few more years.
– Back in Peru, what happened in Colombia?
– In Colombia he had been playing for almost 7 years and in this pandemic the clubs were economically very hit. But aside, years ago we were looking to return to Peru, it appeared now and together with my family we have not thought twice to go to Lima. Besides, it is a country where my family always wanted to return.
– What comes after football?
– I do not want to stop so much to think about what awaits me since the future is always uncertain, but I would like to continue in my field, which is sport, and I also like everything that has to do with the field.
Roberto Ovelar left Once Caldas (Manizales) and signed for Deportivo Municipal (Lima), his third team in Peruvian soccer.
