Football at walking pace: Walking football meeting day in Herxheimweyher

Herxheimweyher. On Saturday, October 12th, the Southwest German Football Association (SWFV) is once again hosting the Walking Football meeting day on the SV Herxheimweyher sports grounds. As in the previous year, the day is dedicated to a young but up-and-coming sport that enables older people or people with restricted mobility to play football in a safe and joint-friendly environment. The event offers those interested the opportunity to experience walking football live.

The day starts at 11 a.m. with an official welcome, before valuable training impulses are imparted by the SWFV teaching staff from 11:15 a.m. The highlight of the day starts at 12.45 p.m.: a mini-tournament in which different teams compete against each other. It is eagerly awaited to see how the players, who demonstrate all their technique and precision when walking with the ball, will harmonize in practice. The tournament offers an excellent opportunity to experience the special requirements of this particular version of football.

But walking football is not just intended for athletes – the sport is above all a social event. Through this event, the SWFV not only wants to awaken sporting ambitions, but also to revitalize club life and bring people together. After the tournament, around 4 p.m., there will be an exchange on the topic of walking football, followed by a cozy ending with food and drinks, organized by SV Herxheimweyher.

What makes walking football special?

Compared to traditional football, walking football has some key differences. The most obvious rule: no running. Players have to move across the field at walking pace – that sounds simple, but in practice it is a real challenge. In addition, the ball may not be played higher than waist height, and physical duels are also prohibited. These rules ensure that walking football is not only safe, but also particularly suitable for people who might otherwise no longer be able to actively play football.

For many, walking football is a welcome return to the beloved team sport. It is often former footballers who had to give up fast running after injuries or age-related limitations who find a new challenge in walking football. The sport not only offers the opportunity to keep moving, but also promotes community and togetherness in the club.

Supporting program for over-30s penalty tournament

Parallel to the walking football meeting day, SV Herxheimweyher is holding an over-30 penalty kick tournament. Recreational teams can demonstrate their skills here. From 12 p.m., women aged 16 and over and men aged 30 and over compete against each other in teams of five shooters and a goalkeeper. Registration for the tournament is now possible by email to [email protected]. The combination of two events makes October 12th an event for young and old sports enthusiasts. In addition to walking football, football fans over 30 can show off their shooting power and precision at the tournament – an entertaining addition to the somewhat quieter, but no less exciting walking football.
