The football season in the north should finally start in August. The associations have agreed on this.

Rotenburg – Now the football clubs in northern Germany have some clarity: The Spielverbund Nord set the guard rails for the 2021 season in an online meeting and decided that it should begin in August. He announced that in a press release. The clubs in Lower Saxony, Hamburg, Bremen and Schleswig-Holstein – including the upper division Northern United from Rotenburg – must declare by June 30th whether they will participate in the league game with promotion opportunities.

“The four regional associations had already asked their clubs in advance who could already safely start with which teams. If desired, these teams can keep their league place for 2022. All other teams play for promotion in the league and can earn a higher league for 2022, ”explains the football association.

Clubs have to declare themselves by the end of June

In the coming days, the clubs will receive mail from their league officials and prepare the first steps for planning a season. The teams can start from August. A later point in time due to summer vacation is also conceivable. “In principle, you can play until the end of November, but it is not advisable to take advantage of it because the pandemic situation may worsen again,” writes the gaming association. The regional league and the A youth regional league must have completed the season by the second weekend in October, as possible relegation games will be scheduled thereafter.

“It is particularly important to the four regional associations that as many teams as possible take part in the game. Another year without any sporting activities can have far-reaching consequences for football in Northern Germany, ”emphasize the officials in their statement. League planning should be carried out with maximum flexibility: If teams could not play individual games due to the pandemic, everything from an exchange of home rights, a relocation or even cancellation is possible. The gaming association only considers sanctions to be appropriate in extreme individual cases.
