Foot and Mouth Disease: Brazilian Vaccine Evaluation Urged by Bortolazzo for SENASA Approval

The company Tecnovax is seeking to import from Brazil some 15 million doses that it could obtain thanks to an agreement it has with the Brazilian Ouro Fino Animal Health.

In the letter sent to the health organization, the company – with national capital – stressed that the doses could be brought “immediately” and that they would cost 50% less than what is paid today in the market.

The person in charge of the Tres Arroyos Health Entity, veterinarian Daniel Bortolazzo, spoke with LU 24 and described the development of the Argentine vaccine, and spoke about the Brazilian vaccine, stating that “it is different from the one we are using; The vaccine that we are using in the territory, a quadrivalent vaccine, with four viruses. And the vaccine that would be imported from Brazil would be a bivalent vaccine; I am not saying if it is a better or worse vaccine, this has to be decided by SENASA, which will have to do its technical and scientific analyzes to see if this vaccine can replace the quadrivalent vaccine, which is the one we are using, and if it would have the achievements it has in Brazil and if it would have the same achievements as in Argentina.”
“The vaccine will not enter as a commercial product for sale to veterinarians or health entities until SENASA has guaranteed the results of the tests it has to do to see the immunity that this vaccine has,” he stated.
