NEW YORK — Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and New York City has several events to provide food for New Yorkers who don’t have the resources to dine out.
This is thanks to the fourth annual campaign of List of Thanksgiving turkey events, free meals, and giveaways from helpNYC which is now available at helpNYC.link/Thanksgiving.
The organization has partnered with more than thirty programs across New York City to ensure New Yorkers don’t go hungry on Thanksgiving.
The bell Festive meals and more began in 2018 to connect New Yorkers experiencing food insecurity during the holidays with food assistance programs that feature special food distributions. This year the campaign has grown to include toy and clothing giveaways and community events.
“Our campaign Festive meals and more not only does it connect New Yorkers in need of critical food assistance, but it also provides New Yorkers with an opportunity to build community and meet other people to spend time with during the holidays,” said Rue Parkin, executive director of helpNYC. “ When I was homeless on the streets, I had no family or friends to spend time with. Community kitchens and holiday events offer the underprivileged an opportunity to connect with their community. I still attend one or two a year to feel the connection to the community that has supported me for so many years.
This campaign is an annual effort by helpNYC’s unique program. The program connects people in need with low-cost services in their communities. Initiated in 2018 as a direct response to a lack of reliable and timely information about public health and social services programs, it has connected more than 43,000 New Yorkers to the programs they deserve.
Anyone in New York City who is food insecure this season is encouraged to visit helpNYC.link/Thanksgiving.
