Foods That Increase the Risk of Stroke: Insights from a Doctor

Al-Marsad Newspaper: A doctor revealed 4 main foods that increase the risk of stroke.

Dr Jonathan Zellinger, chief digital GP at Babylon, said: “As the majority of strokes are associated with the buildup of fatty deposits (atherosclerosis) in the arteries that supply your brain, the foods that contribute to this increase your risk.

He continued: Saturated and trans fats are the main culprits and include foods such as processed meats (such as sausages and burgers), butter, biscuits, and fried foods, to name a few.

He added: “High blood pressure also causes the formation of atherosclerosis, so eating large amounts of salt (such as found in potato chips) will increase your risk. High consumption of sugar (such as soft drinks) is another major factor in the risk of stroke. stroke, in part because of its association with weight gain and type 2 diabetes, which causes arterial damage and inflammation.”

He advised eating at least five (ideally seven to nine) portions of fruit and vegetables per day.
