The Council of Ministers approved a bill that creates a supplementary credit of 2,000 million soles for the delivery of a food voucher aimed at the population in a situation of vulnerability due to the rise in food prices.
This was reported by the head of the Cabinet, Aníbal Torres, at a recent press conference.
“Within the framework of food security, this Government works for the poorest, we reach the most remote areas of Peru and see their needs. In this sense, we have approved a supplementary credit that will be allocated to the delivery of a food voucher to cover or mitigate the impact of the increase in food prices in the most vulnerable sectors of the country”, he stated.
In this regard, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Óscar Graham, stated that the State has benefited from a better collection of Income Tax (IR) thanks to the mining activity, and of the General Sales Tax (IGV) for a increased national economic activity, factors that have made it possible to make a proposal to increase the resources of the current state budget.
Graham explained that this important bill amounts to an amount close to 1% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and is equivalent to a great effort that the Executive Branch is making to mitigate the impacts of the food crisis and the rise in prices of fuels that affects the whole world.
“In this framework, within this supplementary credit, 2,000 million soles are being allocated to the granting of a food bonus, which will serve to cover and mitigate the impact of the increase in the price of food in the most vulnerable sectors of Peru”, he emphasized. .
lease bonus
“In other words, we will support people who have lost their homes due to natural disasters. To this sector of the population, the State will grant a lease bond”, explained the head of the Ministerial Cabinet.
In addition, Minister Graham said that as part of the process of strengthening agricultural production activity, the S/ 348 million for a second purchase of fertilizers is being included in this bill.
Another important aspect, said the Minister of Economy, is generating resources for works that are in the process of being executed, that are close to being completed, and that are in charge of both regional and/or local governments.
“We are allocating 500 million within this supplementary credit that is being presented to Congress for approval,” he specified.
transport
Regarding the strike of carriers announced by some unions for Monday, June 27, Aníbal Torres said he was confident that through dialogue the problems of the sector will be resolved, and he urged the population to remain calm, since if a transport stoppage were to materialize “There is no possibility of a possible shortage of the markets for 10 days.” “That does not fit reality,” he remarked.
fertilizers
Regarding the acquisition of urea as a fertilizer, he stated that said process has been annulled given that the Comptroller’s Office has found certain irregularities and is in the process of investigating. “If responsibilities are found, we hope that those responsible will be punished severely and quickly,” he said.
Finally, he highlighted that currently the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) is accelerating the process of acquiring the fertilizer so that it reaches our farmers on time, regardless of the guano from the island that is already being delivered to them.
