(ANSA) – TRIESTE, 07 APR – 18 students from the Zanon technical institute in Udine fell ill on the train, after returning from a school trip to Tuscany, due to food poisoning. The newspaper Messaggero Veneto reports it, reporting that the children and teachers stopped in Mestre (Venice) where some had to go to the emergency room. The event happened on Thursday: of the 28 boys – two classes of the third year – as many as 18, during the return journey by train, suffered serious gastrointestinal disorders attributable, it was later discovered, to food poisoning, with symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea and fever. Students and teachers left on Easter Monday for a short educational trip. According to the reconstruction of the MV, due to the conditions of the students the train was blocked at the Mestre station, where the railway police requested the intervention of health workers. In particular, two young people suffered more severe symptoms and were taken to hospital by ambulance. The rest of the group continued the journey, but in Udine two other girls sought medical attention and were taken by their parents to Santa Maria della Misericordia. The head teacher of Zanon, Pierluigi Fiorentini, interviewed by the newspaper, said that the children ate the same food, a packed lunch prepared by a local restaurant, and announced that tomorrow morning he will report the incident to the police.
