Barry Callebaut wants to strengthen its presence in the Asia-Pacific region by taking over the Australian company GKC Foods. An agreement has been signed to this effect.
GKC Foods is a chocolate manufacturer specializing in fillings or coatings, said Barry Callebaut on Wednesday. Its products are sold to “many chocolate brands” in Australia and New Zealand. The company also offers vegan and organic chocolate.

Thanks to this acquisition, Barry Callebaut will be present directly in Australia, with production capacities on site. Investments will be made to renovate the plant and install a new production line. About fifty employees will work on the site, including those of GKC Foods, who will join Barry Callebaut when the transaction is finalized.
Australia and New Zealand are promising markets for chocolate. Average annual consumption of 5 kilograms per capita is the highest in the Asia-Pacific region, according to Euromonitor data, and the sector is growing faster than the world average.
The financial details of the transaction were not specified. The transaction has yet to receive the approval of the competent authorities. Its completion is expected by the end of the year.
