Food agency warns of Kinder candy in different packaging after salmonella infections

The federal food agency (FAVV) is again urging consumers on Friday to still watch out for products from chocolate manufacturer Ferrero, including some Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs in which salmonella has been found.

The reason for the new warning is that, according to manufacturer Ferrero, sometimes small quantities of so-called Kinder Shokobons reach our country from abroad. Because they have a different format, it could confuse consumers. But also these Shokobons may not be consumed until further notice, the FASFC emphasizes.

Kinder Schokobons and Kinder Happy Moments – in all sizes – were withdrawn from the market on April 8, following a salmonella contamination that sickened people across Europe.

As a result of the contamination, the factory of chocolate manufacturer Ferrero in Arlon is still closed. “Management is currently working on a restart plan that it will have to submit to the food agency. If the plan is approved, the factory can reopen,” said Sylviane Arnould of the Christian union.

As agreed ten days ago, factory employees will be paid their wages until May 8. It is not yet clear what will happen after that, if production cannot be restarted, according to the union woman. On May 2, trade unions and management will meet again. The factory employs between 500 and 1,000 people, depending on the season. (work)
