Foo Fighters announced the news on Saturday night, when the band was in Bogotá, Colombia. It writes Los Angeles Times.
According to the Colombian television station snail Hawkins was found dead in a hotel room north of the city on Friday, before the band was supposed to be on stage in the Colombian capital later in the day. The band should then have gone on to São Paulo in Brazil to play at the Lollapalooza Brasil festival on Sunday.
No cause of death has been reported.
Hawkins leaves behind a wife and three children.
– The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and sudden loss of our dear Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will be with us all forever. Our thoughts go to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with respect in this unimaginably difficult time, it says in a statement from the band.
Hawkins joined the Foo Fighters in 1997 after touring with Alanis Morissette. It happened after Foo Fighters vocalist Dave Grohl, who was a drummer in Nirvana, was dissatisfied with Foo Fighters’ drummer at the time. Grohl asked his friend Hawkins for views on an appropriate replacement. Grohl was surprised when Hawkins recommended himself.
“We knew we were going to get along well,” Hawkins told OC Weekly shortly after joining Foo Fighters.
